During his time at RKYHS, he participated in the school’s STEM program, studying scientific engineering and genetic engineering. He also spent a year working independently in genetic engineering with Dr. Stein’s guidance, studying the genetic basis for Retinitis Pigmentosa. Avi has programming experience in Java and R.
Beryl Artman, Mentor-Instructor
Beryl is a first-year Engineering student at Johns Hopkins. During his time at RKYHS, he participated in the school’s STEM program, studying scientific engineering and genetic engineering. One of Beryl's significant accomplishments is the budget friendly PCR machine he built for about $4800 less than a commercial grade machine. A PCR machine also known as a thermocycler is basically a DNA copy machine and is an essential and must have machine in any bio lab.
